Education
Six grassroots NGOs namely Sankhasurbhra in Kolkata,
Digamber in Chhattisgarh, Shikhar Yuva Manch in Chhattisgarh, Ankur
Vidyalya in Jammu, Koshish in Kashmir and Soshit Samadhan Kendra
in Patna joined Smile Foundation as partners in the Mission Education
programme.
Outreach projects
For effective functioning of the Non Formal Education
centres in Jajpur, the Foundation brought some significant changes
by providing study materials to all the centres, initiating nutrition
programme in all NFE centres, establishing toy banks in all NFE
centres, providing uniforms to all the students etc. A new remedial
education centre was also inaugurated on November 12, 2009 at Pankapal
High School.
Five village education committees were formed in each village to
motivate the parents to send their kids to the centre. The committee
holds a meeting every month to assess the progress of the children
in studies.
Child For Child Programme

Several events and workshops were organised in
Bangalore, Nagpur, Pune, Kolkata, Ajmer to sensitise students of
reputed schools about the plight of less privileged children. The
number of children reached out through the Child For Child programme
has now gone up to about 700,000.
Smile Twin e-Learning Programme
As of now, 1502 STeP students have got a placement
in leading companies like Coffee Day Xpress, Aegis BPO, Live Wire,
Spice BPO, Mc.Donalds, Heritage Foods India Ltd, County Apparels
etc. Out of them, 207 were placed this quarter. STeP Aroh Centre
at Noida and ST. Paul Charitable Trust, Jhansi created 100 per cent
placement record. Two new STeP centres were setup one in Delhi and
another in Noida. |
