Smile’s
Mobile Hospital for Tamil Nadu
Smile Foundation is launching Smile on
Wheels, its mobile hospital programme, in Tamil Nadu by
joining hands with LifeLine Multi Speciality Hospitals,
Chennai.
This is the eighth project under Smile on Wheels
programme across as many states in India. Out of it, six projects
are already operational in the states of Uttarakhand, Orissa, Maharashtra,
Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. The project will also
be launched in Delhi, very soon.
Dr J S Rajkumar, Founder & Chairman of LifeLine
Group, says the group is glad to be associated with Smile Foundation
for this innovative venture. Dr. Rajkumar, a renowned surgeon, is
also a known philanthropist.
The LifeLine Hospitals Group, under the leadership
of Dr Rajkumar and his dedicated team of doctors, has conducted
thousands of free consultations and surgeries in 10 years of its
existence. The group has been very actively involved in tsunami
relief too.
Objective of the Project
Smile on Wheels aims to take comprehensive health
care services (preventive, promotive and curative) to rural remote
villages and reaching out to the most underprivileged but needy
people across the country. The programme intends to bring medical
expertise from nearby urban centres/ cities to the rural areas and
urban slums.
Health Services on Offer
The project provides necessary services such as
OPD, Ante-natal, post-natal services, identification of difficult
pregnancy and referral for institutional care, Immunization - Mother
& children, Minor surgery, BP examination, X-ray, ECG, First
Aid, Distribution of Iron Folic tablets, Vit-A Prophylaxis, Treatment
of mal-nutrient cases, etc. The project also provides referral services
to the patients by having partnered with credible hospitals and
health experts in the field.
How it Works
These projects have been reaching out to deserving
villages in the outreach where no alternative health services exist
and provide the essential health care services under expert medical
practitioners. The mobile medical vans run by SMILE have been covering
a diameter of 20-50 kms from its centre/ base and visit 2-3 villages
a day on a regular basis.
Outlook and Future Plan
With enthusiastic response received from the five
states during the first phase of the implementation of the programme,
the Foundation wishes to partner with more organizations to realize
the aim of running 30 such vans across the country. This financial
year alone, Smile Foundation has projected to add another 5 ‘Smile
on Wheels’ projects across India.
LifeLine Hospitals: A New Chapter of Partnership
Smile Foundation appreciates the spirit of philanthropy
and social commitment of LifeLine Group, Chennai and looks forward
to a very productive partnership for providing medi-care facilities
