Education is a step beyond
mere literacy.
Quality education is the tool of empowerment
for underprivileged children. Smile Foundation and its partner
ORYSED have taken up a project titled ‘Remedial Education
in Jatesingha High School’ with the same above objective.
About the Partner
ORYSED has its head office in Bir Maharajpur
in district Subarnapur of Orissa. It was founded as a registered
trust in October 1999. Since its inception, ORYSED has been
working for economic and social empowerment of the marginalized
and deprived communities in rural and urban areas of Subarnapur
district through development projects on education, health care,
advocacy and awareness generation.
About the Project
Bir Maharajpur block of district Subarnapur
is one of the most backward areas in the state of Orissa. Majority
of the people living there are illiterate and poor. Children
of these poor parents are unable to attain a certain basic level
of education necessary for sustaining self and the family for
want of basic resources like books, stationery, proper coaching
and guidance. They thus remain entrapped in the vicious cycle
of poverty leading to lack of education leading to poverty again.
Project ‘Remedial Education in Jatesingha
High School’ was initiated by ORYSED to bring these children
out of the vicious cycle. Beneficiaries of the project who are
mainly from Classes 9th and 10th are being provided extra coaching
and adequate reading material in three main subjects namely
Mathematics, Science and English as lack of proficiency in these
subjects prevents them from clearing their board examinations
and get a High School certificate. Progress of all the beneficiaries
is monitored on a fortnightly basis and tuition schedule of
each beneficiary is prepared based on individual’s performance
to ensure that each one of them qualifies in their final examination
to attain basic level of education for gainful employment.
The project is a step in the right direction
to provide quality education, which is also the need, leading
the village children to the path of empowerment.
