Smile Foundation and Nav Shrishti have planned
to work for the development of the women and underprivileged children
of Neb Sarai, Nangloi, Holambi Kalan, Nut Colony in Delhi and Slum
clusters in Faridabad, Haryana. It aims to provide Education, Vocational
Training, Health Care and Community Mobilization.
About the Partner
Nav Shrishti, a registered NGO based in Delhi has
been working to strengthen the underprivileged children and deprived
women by providing Education as well as Vocational Training. It
is running Educational Centers, Vocational Training Centers, Health
Check up Camps and taking up Community Mobilization Programmes for
the needy section of the society. It is also one of the partners
of Smile Foundation implementing a focused programme on Child Education
and Heath Care.
The Project
The Integrated Project on Girl Child includes Education,
Health Care, Vocational Training, Family Life & Life Skills
Education. It works for the betterment of the deprived women and
underprivileged children. The programme is going on through three
project areas as follow -
Atmadpur Project
This project centre is around 3 Kms. from Sector
29, Faridabad in Haryana. The activities running from this centre
include Non Formal Education [NFE] programme providing free education
to 30 poor children between age group of 5 - 14 years. A Balwari
[KG] caters to 30 deprived children between 5-8 years of age group.
It also has a crèche for 30 underprivileged children (4-6
years, younger siblings of NFE & Balwari children). It also
comprises of a remedial centre for needy children the 10-17 age
groups and a Vocational Training Centre for them too.
There are 4 Teachers working at the center, one
each for the NFE centre, Balwari & Crèche, Vocational
Training and Remedial Centres.
Dhiraj Nagar Project
Dhiraj Nagar is a 10-year old resettlement colony.
As the nearest government school is far from the colony, an Education
Centre has been established there to provide free education and
health care facilities to underprivileged children and girl child
residing there.
Santosh Nagar Project
It is a typical slum colony where the total number
of children is approximately 6000, out of which 700 are school dropouts
and 800 are non-school going. School going children are around 4500.
Girls are mostly involved in manual and child labour activities,
sibling care or are married at a very early age.
Special focus
" There are at least 50% girls in education
classes / centres
" Girls admitted for Vocational Training should
at least be Middle Pass (Class X passed preferred) and be able to
read and write in Hindi. Some knowledge of English language (able
to read) will be ensured.
" Vocational Training is provided competently
and girls completing this training are facilitated in establishing
the crafts as income generating activities for them, while working
from home. Smile Foundation and the partner will help in facilitating
loans from Banks in Faridabad for trained girls to buy stitching
and knitting machines as well as accessories and minor kits.
" Adolescent girls at Vocational Training
Centres are to be given Family Life & Life Skills Education
periodically.
Smile Foundation and Nav Shrishti is giving new hopes to the underprivileged children and women to help them to lead a dignified life.
