Education lights up young lives in Ahmedabad
This Mission Education project aims at the upliftment and betterment of children residing in the slums of Vadaj in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The centre has adopted a holistic approach towards the development of these underprivileged children. Though the area has experienced visible progress, it was observed that Municipal schools had hardly been able to provide quality teaching and learning to the children.
The centre holds regular sessions for classes 1st to 9th, with special remedial classes for children with basic learning problems. With syllabus oriented studies, special focus is given to English language, Art & Crafts and value based education. Music classes are also held once every week. The latent talents of children are identified, encouraged and nurtured through training and competitions.
Senior students are also facilitated with computer education workshops. A library is maintained specifically for the economically deprived children who lag access to books beyond the curriculum. Regular health check-ups are organized for the children with free distribution of medicines to ensure their good health and retention at the centre.
On special occasions, activities such as Creative Arts, Sports, Pictionary and Public Speaking are organized, to keep the students engaged. Faculties are invited from outside as guest lecturers from time to time. Picnics and informative excursions are also organised for the children.
Smile Foundation has partnered with Samvedana for this project.
