About Chennai Smile on Wheels

The mobile hospital was launched on June 10, 2008 by Ms. Renuka Chowdhury, Union Minister for Women & Child Development, Govt. of India. Smile on Wheels is operational in Chennai where it will cover areas like Perungudi village, Madipakkam, Sholinganallur, Perumpakkanur, Uthandi, Kouzami and many more.
The unique mobile hospital has a team of specialised doctors, nurses and other medical staff along with all possibly required medicines from distinguished laboratories to be distributed to the diseased. The patients are charged either nothing or minimal amount for the treatment, prescription etc at Smile on Wheels.

The project running currently in its initial stage is organising on the spot healthcare camps in different slum communities surrounding the city of Chennai. With a special focus on women and child health, Smile on Wheels also aims to spread awareness and knowledge about preventive measures and health and hygiene education than only helping slum communities by curing and treating their diseases. In the process the goal is to make the people realise the importance of sound health and drive them to their nearest health centres on an immediate basis when a need is felt.

Lifeline Group, displaying an exemplary social responsibility, has contributed towards the capital cost of the Chennai Smile on Wheels project.
