Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has supported one Smile on Wheels (SOW) project in Delhi by bearing part capital cost of the project. The objective of the partnership is to bring needed medical expertise, services, medicines etc. from urban areas to provide comprehensive health care services (including preventive, curative and promotive) to under-privileged community in the proposed area. The health care services will focus on children and women. The project will be operational in the eastern & western slums of the Delhi. It will cover those slums which are having approximate population of l lakh.
It’s important to know that GAIL which is a public sector undertaking has been very active in promoting corporate social responsibility. GAIL’s investment in Health Care programmes has made a significant impact in terms of providing better healthcare to the under-privileged section of the society. GAIL has been engaged in planned community and social benefit programmes, carried out under the Special Component Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) since 1992. Subsequently in 2002, a comprehensive CSR policy was adopted by the Board, wherein 1% of PAT was allocated as annual CSR budget. CSR programmes are taken up at almost 36 work centers and Zonal offices located across the country, focusing at development and empowerment of the people belonging to socially, economically and under-privileged segment of the society, especially in the neighborhood of their operational projects.
