As part of its CSR programme Jindal Stainless Steels Ltd. is supporting Smile Foundation’s Mission Education programme in Jajpur district of Orissa. The programme aims at providing remedial and bridge education to the local school going and dropout children of Jajpur. At present there are 425 students benefiting through 5 remedial education centers and 166 children through 5 bridge course centers.
5 VECs (Village Education Committees) and 5 mothers’ association were formed as part of the project. Also there is 1 computer centre with 125 beneficiaries. The children of the bridge course centers are provided with supplementary nutrition which is supplied by the village level women self help groups.
It is worth mentioning that Jindal Group is ranked sixth amongst the top Indian Business Houses in terms of assets, the Group today is a US $ 12 Billion conglomerate. JSW Foundation, an independent Trust, which administers the social development initiatives of the JSW Group, is chaired by Mrs. Sangita Jindal. Every year, the Foundation in consultation with plant managements and CSR teams at the plants, finalises set of activities that get built into the business plan. The Foundation lays emphasis on maintaining a continuum of social development thinking into the conduct of these activities.
