Children from less privileged background and their privileged peers came together through songs, dance and mime to spread the joy of empathy and togetherness at The Gurukul, Zirakpur, near Chandigarh. Trained by the loving teachers of the school and student’s, the children from a Mission Education Centre in Chandigarh performed like stars at the school’s annual Achievement Day held on 19th and 20th March.
The Gurukul and Smile Foundation came together for this initiative through Child for Child programme. The 50 children presented acts related to child labor and Right to Education. It was an overwhelming experience for all involved in this rare interaction.
Under the Child for Child programme, Smile Foundation visits various schools and conducts engaging sessions for the young minds. It sensitizes children towards various causes and let them realize their privileged status.
CFC currently reaches out to nearly one million privileged children in 900 schools spread across 417 districts of India, every year. In addition, their parents and teachers are also involved in the process. The programme has today reached out to each part of India with the exception of Lakshadweep.
Smile Foundation is an NGO in India directly benefitting over 600,000 children and their families every year, through more than 250 live welfare projects on education, healthcare, livelihood and women empowerment, in over 950 remote villages and slums across 25 states of India.
