Smile Foundation, in collaboration with Mars and Wrigley, is working to enhance the infrastructure of 10 Anganwadi Centres through our women empowerment initiative Swabhiman. The project aims to improve the nutritional status and well-being of children and women in select communities. This project focuses on upgrading the physical infrastructure of these community resources, ensuring they become better equipped to provide essential maternal and child healthcare services.
The initiative involves several key actions. First, the Anganwadi Centres will be furnished with child-friendly learning materials, furniture, and recreational equipment to create a supportive and engaging environment for young children. The sanitation systems at these centres will also be upgraded to meet health and safety standards, ensuring a clean and safe space for all users.
Additionally, community kitchen gardens will be established around the Anganwadi Centres, promoting local access to nutritious food. Training and capacity-building sessions will be conducted for Anganwadi workers to improve their skills in maintaining the facilities and ensuring efficient operation of the centres. These efforts aim to strengthen the role of Anganwadi Centres in providing maternal healthcare services, particularly for pregnant and lactating women.
A key aspect of the project is engaging local community members and stakeholders in the decision-making process, ensuring that their voices are heard, and their needs are addressed. Regular Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities will be conducted to raise awareness and promote healthier practices among the community.
This partnership aligns with government interventions, working to complement and strengthen existing schemes, ensuring that the Anganwadi Centres can continue to serve as vital resources for maternal and child health in the communities they support.
