Taking Smile children as his lucky charms veteran actor-producer Ajay Devgn celebrated two special days with Smile Foundation’s children. Earlier this year Ajay Devgn with director Rohit Shetty celebrated the success of their film Bol Bacchan with Smile Foundation kids at Mehboob studio in Mumbai. They both spent a lot time interacting with the children. The children had specially made a congratulations card for them, which they received happily.
Again, when Sonakshi and Ajay came down to Delhi to promote their movie Son of Sardar they decided to celebrate Children’s Day and Diwali with the kids from Smile Foundation and to make them feel special. They also have especially pledged to support the cause of education of underprivileged children. They both spent a lot of quality time with the children
It was a special Friendships Day celebration for director Madhur Bhandarkar and actor Kareena Kapoor this year. The director and the actor had invited children from Smile Foundation on the sets of their upcoming film Heroine specially to celebrate Friendship Day with the little ones. It was an exciting moment for the children of Smile Foundation to meet their favourite celebrities.
Overwhelmed with the interaction an excited Kareena exclaimed “I have never celebrated Friendship Day before this and no one has ever given me a friendship band. This is my first and I am so glad it is. I couldn’t have asked for a better beginning to the day”.
To this Madhur Bhandarkar added, “I am delighted to see these kids on my set. And now I am friends with all of them. It is truly my best Friendship Day celebration ever.”
Veteran actor Sanjay Dutt hosted a small and simple birthday party for Smile Foundation children in his residence in Bandra, Mumbai. Sanjay specially took time off from his busy schedule to spend a lot of time with the children.
The children gifted him a cake, with a handmade card and flowers. He cut the cake along with Smile kids and in turn gave them chocolates and gifts, which the children were very excited to get.
Sanjay spent the whole evening interacting with the children, asking about their hobbies and dreams. To cheer them up Sanjay also shared some of the dialogues from his films Munna Bhai and Agneepath.
Dia Mirza is new friend of Smile Foundation children. The actor invited kids at her residence in Mumbai to celebrate the day with them. She exchanged friendship bands with the kids who were very happy at finding a new friend.
She also spent a lot of time interacting with the kids discussing about her friends who always supported her. To wish Dia, the children had specially made a Friendships Day card, which she happily accepted and wished the kids for their future endeavors.
Bollywood actors Abhay Deol and Esha Gupta invited the children of Smile Foundation for a motivational session in Mumbai. They invited the children to spend some quality time with them. The children gifted a bouquet of flowers to Abhay and Esha. Cheering the children they had a lot of interactions on their dreams in life and also doing good for others.
Abhay motivated the children to ‘dream big in life and also to do good to others.’
The actors also gifted some presents to the children, who getting the gifts felt really special. The children also wished the actors best of luck for their upcoming movie ‘Chakravuyh’.
Vipul Mehta, the winner of Sony’s singing reality show Indian Idol 6 came down to Mission Education centre at Dreamz Home in Mumbai and spent some quality time with Smile children. Vipul sang songs, danced with the kids and also gave away a few goodies such as bags and books to the kids. The kids were seen having a cheerful time with Vipul around and he also made sure that the kids enjoy every minute of it.
The students of Smile’s STeP programme Desh Seva Samiti also were invited to be a part of the show, which was a happy moment for kids. The students enjoyed being a part of the show and met the judges Anu Malik, Salim Merchant and Sunidhi Chauhan.
Famous TV actor and Miss India 2006 finalist, Aishwarya Sakhuja celebrated Raksha Bhandhan with Smile children in Mumbai. She came down to Smile Foundation’s Mumbai office to be a big sister to Smile kids and to celebrate the day with lot of fun and spirit.
She spent quality time interacting with the children asking about their hobbies and dreams. They all had fun with lots of music, songs, dance and activities. The children also cut a Rakhi cake with Aishwarya. Aishwarya distributed small gifts among them, which the children were happy to get.
She also motivated the kids to work for their desired goal in life and encouraged them for achieving it.
Smile Foundation in association with Evening Flavors launched a week long campaign “Serve With Smile Week” in Bangalore. The campaign aimed at providing nutritious food to the underprivileged children, by involving the socially conscious restaurants and eminent personalities of the city for a year.
Under this campaign, the restaurants who associated with Smile Foundation had dedicated one table each for a week to provide nutritional support to the underprivileged children.
Chetan Bhagat, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Prasad Bidapa, Uzma Irfan, Pankaj Advani, Dr. Kamini Rao and Kulsum Shadab Wahab are some of the eminent personalities who came forward to support the campaign. Other than the personalities, the restaurants who served with Smile were Kakori Kababs and Curries. Love Shack, Nagarjuna, Fisherman’s Wharf, Touché, Keys, Soul City, 100ft., MovenPick, Tango Calypso, 898 steaks and grill, huckleberry, Inchara, Shivsagar, Atria and Portland.
Motherhood a premium healthcare centre in Bangalore supported nutrition of 100 underprivileged children. Prestige Group has been a regular supporter of Smile Foundation and this time also came forward to support this campaign. Accord Advertising Pvt. Ltd. became the outdoor partner in the Serve With Smile Week.
Smile Foundation celebrated Joy of Giving Week 2012 with its corporate partners.
The employees of corporates like Panasonic India, Infosys BPO, Coca Cola, BNY Mellon came forward to fulfill the unheard wishes of the underprivileged children. Smile Foundation put up wish trees in the premises of the corporates. The corporate employees pledged to fulfill the wishes of the underprivileged children by picking up a wish from the wish tree. The employees were all excited with the feeling of doing something good for the children.
Smile Foundation would like to thank all corporate professionals in Panasonic India, Infosys BPO, Coca Cola, and BNY Mellon for coming forward and fulfilling the unmet wishes of Smile children through the Joy of Giving Week 2012.
Smile Foundation receives ‘Healthcare Leadership Award 2012’ for its contribution in the field of healthcare for the underprivileged. The award function was organised at Alliance Francaise, New Delhi.
Nominations for this award have been invited from seven countries, including India. An expert panel had been constituted to undertake the selection procedures, which also did independent research on the activities and credibility in relation with the applicant organisations.
Dr. K. K. Aggarwal , (Padmashri and Dr. B C Roy National Awardee), presented the award to Mr. H.N. Sahay, Director Operations, Smile Foundation.
Smile Foundation had joined hands with CFSI as the outreach partner for its movie Gattu. In order to support the journey of Gattu Smile Foundation organised a special screening of the feature film at Film Division of India in New Delhi. This screening was conducted especially for school principals, teachers, Smile’s NGO partners and children.
Like I am Kalam, this film too motivates children to dream against all odds to make them come true and encourages adults to ensure that all across the world no child remains on the streets, but in the trustful environment of the school.
Smile Foundation, once again this year, participated in the 5th Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2012. Veteran Indian Hockey players Mr. Ashok Kumar, former Indian Hockey player and son of Major Dhayanchand and Mr. Harender Singh former couch of Indian Hockey team supported Smile Foundation this year. Along with the sports stars Barclays Shared Services, the leading global financial services group, also participated in the marathon supporting Smile Foundation and the cause of “Sending Every Child to School”.
This year Smile Foundation had participated in the Great Delhi Run and both Mr. Ashok Kumar and Mr. Harender Singh were present to cheer Smile Foundation and Barclays Shared Services. Young students of the Smile Twin e-Learning Programme had also participated in the Marathon. Both the sports stars cheered the students from Smile Foundation with great enthusiasm. Before the run flagged off, both, Mr. Ashok Kumar and Mr. Harendar Singh met the students from Smile to motivate all of them to finish the run well. The students were very excited to meet the stars and were overwhelmed with their gesture of personally coming to motivate them for their challenge.
Further extending their support both the veterans pledged to support Smile Foundation at the Joy of Giving Week by unveiling a wish bag for supporting the education of 50 children of Smile Foundation for a year.
