Travelling over 20 km to reach the nearest medical facility the residents of Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh had to undertake much hardships in terms of health care, until Smile on Wheels an initiative of the Smile Foundation was launched. Over 20,000 children and women from 42 villages were provided doorstep medical facilities through Smile on Wheels in the last 12 months. Launched in December 2014 with support from Leasing & Financial Services Limited, the Smile on Wheels project aims to provide preventive and curative health services at the people’s doorstep. Under the project, daily OPDs are organised on routine basis on the identified villages. These check-ups are turning out to be very first diagnosis of ailments in many people, post which they are provided free treatment and medicines. Specialized health camps are also conducted to reach a bigger chunk of the population.
