The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) recently associated with Smile Foundation to make a documentary film on girl child related issues in India. This documentary is based on the life of an underprivileged girl living in very difficult circumstances and how education changes her life for good.
Swabhiman, the girl child and women empowerment programme of Smile Foundation intervenes in numerous slum areas of Delhi.
One of the Swabhiman beneficiaries and health volunteers was selected to play the protagonist of the documentary. The film was shot by a professional team from Washington, in Shri Ram J.J. Camp of New Delhi, one of the intervention areas of the Swabhiman programme.
The Swabhiman Health Volunteer, Usha, could play the protagonist only because she was trained and groomed in Mime and other skills in the skill building workshops organized by Smile Foundation. This documentary film will be screened at the prestigious 2020 Conference to be held in February 2011. This conference will see participation from national and international delegates from across the globe.
