Team Kolkata Knight Riders and Meer Foundation have come together to support Smile Foundation in their endeavor to provide healthcare services for the underprivileged community specially women and children. The inaugural health camp was conducted on the 15th of April 2018 at Bantala, Kolkata, after which 11 more health camps will be conducted across the state of West Bengal. The camps will run in the districts of Kolkata, south and North 24 Pargana, East and West Medinipore , Burdwan, Darjeling, Alipurduar and Cochbihar. The overall target beneficiary to be reached is counted at 2400 people.
The inaugural camp facilitated healthcare services for the people dwelling in the Dhapa-Bantala area where the popular occupations are rag-picking and daily wage earning which make the people prone to multiple diseases and infections. The locations have been chosen so as to provide healthcare needs to the people who need it the most but cannot afford it due to lack of resources and awareness. Through the health camps Smile on Wheels aims to provide primary healthcare services and also spread awareness about various diseases among the needy and underprivileged.
Smile on Wheels programme at present has 39 operational projects in 623 remote villages and urban slums across India, directly benefiting 580,000 lives directly in a year.
