Amrapali Utkarsh Sangha, Nagpur organized ‘Bhoomi Poojan’ (Foundation Stone laying ceremony) for the construction of additional rooms in its residential school for underprivileged children in the morning hours of 6th Dec’08.
Sangha used the occasion to mobilize resources for scaling up activities of residential school. Important persons of Nagpur city from various fields like business, banking and politics were invited to the function. They were taken on a round of the residential school followed by a trip to the stone quarries where the parents of these children work under hostile and difficult circumstances as daily wage labourers. They were then shown how lives of the children of these daily wage earners have undergone a transformation through the power of education. An appeal for support was placed before the august gathering at the opportune moment. The gathered audience already sensitized about the plight of underprivileged by now readily agreed to come forward and contribute for furtherance of residential school’s activities. This local action was indeed a very convincing and transparent method of mobilizing resources.
