Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra joined Smile Foundation’s mission to ensure quality education for all, on International Day for the Girl Child.
Promoting the cause of girl child education, Priyanka visited Smile Foundation’s Mission Education centre in Mumbai, to interact with the child beneficiaries. The children studying at the centre come from disadvantaged sections of the society and many of them are orphans, physically challenged or raised by poor single parents.
Priyanka interacted at length with the kids, asking them about their dreams and ambitions and encouraged them to study well to pursue their dreams. She also spoke about the significant place of girl children in our society, emphasizing on how it was more important to teach a girl as girls played multiple roles in the development of a society.
Talking about the importance of education for girls, Mr. Santanu Mishra, Co-founder and Executive Trustee, Smile Foundation, said, “When a girl gets education, a mother gets educated, a wife gets educated, and children of future generations get educated. An educated girl makes an empowered and prosperous society. On behalf of Smile Foundation I would like to thank Ms. Priyanka Chopra for promoting the cause of the girl child.”
Mission Education presently reaches out to 16,500 underprivileged children directly through 70 projects in 21 states across India.
