Smile Foundation organised a street play at Delhi to sensitise the audience on safe motherhood on May 11, 2010 to celebrate the Mother’s Day. The community educators and volunteers of the Swabhiman Programmes – girl child and women empowerment programme of Smile Foundation – who presented the play used this medium to generate awareness and provide necessary tips on making motherhood safe and secure for the women in our society.
The play also talked about the participation of the community to bring in safety and security to motherhood as the characters and story of the play were linked to real life people in family and society and also the day to day happenings during the pregnancy and post delivery of a woman.
The street play was broadcast live on Salam Namaste, a Noida based community radio station. The Swabhiman team also spread the message on the need for safe motherhood through an exclusive interview on a Salam Namaste after the play.
