“We are blessed with kind people like you, who provide everything free of cost to us and who take care of our health.” – stated one of the beneficiaries benefitted from the health care camp ,Smile Foundation conducted for the truck drivers and their helpers at Transport Nagar- GT Karnal Road, Delhi under their Smile on Wheels programme.
December 1, 2011, On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Smile Foundation sensitized several truck drivers about the HIV/ AIDS problems. The main objective of the camp was to educate “Uneducated and Underprivileged Truck Drivers and Their Helpers about HIV/AIDS Problems”.
The event was conducted at the highway where there is a big footfall of truck drivers. The event started with a screening of a sensitizing A/V about the prevention and advocacy on AIDS. The doctors also counseled the beneficiaries about the AIDS preventive measures. And also distributed male contraceptives with informative leaflets and pamphlets.
Besides a sensitizing event an eye check-up camp was also conducted for the participating beneficiaries. About 192 participants participated in the event. 110 patients were examined in the general health check up camp and were given free medicines and contraceptives; 80 patients were attended in the eye check up camp and were given free spectacles who were detected with weak eye sides.
The event was a big success. Each and every beneficiary benefited, acknowledged Smile Foundation’s efforts to sensitize the urban and rural group that travels across the country.
