Smile Foundation celebrated International Literacy Day with Red FM Kolkata. Red FM aired a special 3 hour show for the day where Smile kids were invited to share with the listeners, their experiences about the difference education made in their lives. RJ Jenia also asked the listeners their own take on how illiteracy can be eradicated.
The celebration for the day also included an interaction of the Smile Kids with the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs winner – Sanchita Bhattacharya, and the students of South City School in Kolkata.
The event was a bit hit among all, Smile kids, the students and staff of South City School. Sanchita mesmerized all the people with her magnificent voice and performance. Gali Gali Sim Sim muppets also presented a thematic show that well connected with the kids.
Speaking to the media for the occasion, Sanchita Bhattacharya stated “It feel great to be back in a school and that too for a wonderful cause. I believe that education has made me the person I am. I would like to appeal to everyone to do their bit for the under privileged children which can help them turn their dreams into a breathing reality.”
Mr.Binod Kumar, Head of Administration, South City School also spoke to the media saying “Every individual is endowed with intrinsic human dignity and the potential to learn and change their life and become a helping hand in self growth and the development of society. This International Literacy Day, South City School steps forward with the motto of creating awareness towards the power of being educated.”
