Studies across the country have reported a staggering statistic, of every second child being the victim of some or the other form of sexual abuse. There is a need to increase the awareness regarding CSA and sensitize the prime persons in a child’s life viz. parents, teachers and peers, who can bring a definite change in the intervention by reporting it early. There are many unreported and unnoticed cases.
A workshop on child sexual abuse was conducted in a school in Mohali on the 27th of May 2019. 200 parents attended the workshop conducted by the Child for Child programme of Smile Foundation. The parents were sensitized about the types of abuse and what measures should be taken to prevent such issues.
Under Child for Child programme, Smile Foundation visits various schools and conducts engaging sessions for the young minds. It sensitizes children towards various causes and let them realize their privileged status.
CFC currently reaches out to nearly one million privileged children in 1974 schools spread across 417 districts of India, every year. In addition, their parents and teachers are also involved in the process. The programme has today reached out to each part of India with the exception of Lakshadweep.
