A workshop on reproductive and maternal health in the Heganahalli slum cluster saw the active participation of women and girls alike. Ms. Udayshree, from the Karnatak State Council for Child Welfare, joined the Swabhiman team in Bengaluru to conduct the workshop. The workshop was started by a discussion on the changes that take place in a woman’s body from the age of 11 to 55 years. The participants were kept engaged by frequent question answer session. Sources of common infections and high risk areas according to various age groups, the precautions needed to take for them and individual problems of the individuals were also discussed. Maternal health issues, dietary needs of expecting and lactating mothers were also some of the topics discussed. A demo diet chart was prepared, with active involvement of the participants, who also volunteered to share the same with other women from the community.
