Dear readers and supporters,

With the Nobel Peace Prize 2014 vindicating the cause of child welfare by recognizing the two crusaders of child rights and education – Mr. Kailash Satyarthi and Ms. Malala Yousafzai, we at Smile Foundation, have been motivated further towards our mission of bringing positive change in the lives of children and families. Our heartiest congratulations to both the Nobel laureates!

The Cover Story highlights our own efforts towards making education possible for the marginalized and underserved children in the country. Mission education, Smile Foundation’s flagship programme, has provided quality to 200,000 children so far. Some of these children are now pursuing their higher education at reputed universities across India, while some have already built a secure life for themselves, and have joined our mission in spreading the light of education further.

The country was shaken by a massive national emergency during the period – the Jammu & Kashmir floods, bringing life to a standstill in the state, as thousands suffered. Our Disaster Response team was immediately on the ground, aiding in the rescue operations and following up with distribution of relief material and health camps for the affected victims.

It was and exciting time with some great associations, programmatic innovations, stories of change from the ground and path-breaking events coming together and keeping us inspired. We heartily thank all Smilians – our team, beneficiaries, supporters, well wishers, for the encouragement.
